Sitting in the darkness of their own graves, the three Popes challenge the viewer with their cheap cloth suits and paper hats. The rich pope, the white pope, and the poor pope are the representation of the three faces of the sacred. The symbols are distributed by each of these three paintings that make up a bleak and extraordinary triptych.
